When the Yurt Alert staff first met after Chain Reaction Day 2014 we discussed the many questions left in our minds after the events of the day. Perhaps the biggest of which, is there racism here at TSA? We decided to dedicate our next issue to an exploration of racism and tolerance and to further the discussion that Chain Reaction Day has only initiated. In this issue we have included the definition of “Tolerance” according to the UNO, quotes and aphorisms from people in history who have made a difference, poems and song lyrics about diversity and acceptance, an interview with Kate Sensenich on Chain Reaction Day, a brief celebration of the life of Nelson Mandela, and a debrief of Invictus and Shennadoah by Ben Lazar. The Yurt Alert encourages everyone at TSA to continue thinking about how we are affected by racism, and to remember that Chain Reaction Day is not the only time for this type of reflection. Racism is not a black and white subject, and it affects us all.
Our newest issue also features letters from TSA students who are studying abroad, the “Let’s Talk About Sex” column by the Yurt Alert’s own Cora Swanberg focusing on the controversial subject of abortion, a few school-wide humorous predictions.
