Dejah's Killin' It.

I'm completing this semester at the Oxbow school, which is a semester program for high school juniors and seniors in Napa, California. It's an art based curriculum, but you take academic classes as well.
The work is heavier than I expected, but it's been a really great experience so far and doesn't feel like all I'm doing is homework because everyone is doing it and WANTS to be here. It's a great way to figure out how to be independent- there is a good balance between freedom and structure here. It's still early in the semester, so we haven't gotten to deeply into any projects yet, but so far I've made a short film (filmed and edited by me), written a personal narrative, done lots of drawings, made a sculpture replica of a stick, done lots of journaling and done lots of photography, along with more art. Soon I'll be in the painting studio experimenting with that, and then we pick our own projects to work on in whatever medium we choose.
School is fun, the teachers are incredible, classes don't feel tedious, there are lots of great people, the food is AWESOME, and Napa is a pretty interesting place compared to Vermont. Oh, and it's warm. :)
The studios/river in the morning:
My drawing of a stick in progress:
We keep journals of our daily progress in the studios, but we're also allowed to do our own art in them:
The Napa river...always a nice view from the studios!
An early morning moment in the sculpture studio. That class wall opens up like a garage door for nice days.
Dorm life.. Good practice for living with crazy people, and a great opportunity to decorate!
